Terri Harris, BSN, RN, CCM

Founder & Chief Patient Advocate

With 24 years of nursing experience, I've seen our healthcare system from every angle. I've been there for new life, for near-death experiences, and everything in between. I've held the hands of patients battling cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, and helped families navigate the toughest decisions of their lives.

As the ICU case manager, I saw patients at their most vulnerable. I worked with high-needs patients as they transitioned from the hospital to home or other facilities, and I helped manage end-of-life care planning. As a supervisor for private home care, I worked to coordinate resources to keep patients in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by the people and things they love.

Managing a large neurosurgery clinic during the pandemic, I advocated for patients navigating referrals and insurance, aligned care between providers, provided community resources. It's been a long and emotional journey, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

My Personal "Why"

What inspired me to pursue this path was my wonderful parents. As their health declined, they faced the challenges of poor communication, confusion over diagnoses, treatments and medications, and gaps in coordination of services. They felt like “care” had been taken out of healthcare.

My parents needed help from someone who knew the system and that was my world. My sisters often wondered what those without a nurse in the family do. It occurred to me that I could be that nurse…the nurse in YOUR family. And with that, Larimar Patient Advocates was born.
